What is logo digitizing embroidery?

Embroidery digitizing is the process of converting a raster or vector logo into a stitch file — a precision instruction set that tells an embroidery machine exactly where to put every single needle penetration. It is NOT auto-tracing or vectorization. A good digitizer is part graphic designer, part embroidery technician, deciding stitch type (satin, fill, run), stitch direction, underlay structure, density, and color sequence based on the design, the fabric it will sew on, and the final embroidered size. The result is a stitch file (DST, EMB, PES, or other format depending on machine) that runs cleanly on production embroidery equipment without thread breaks, puckering, or registration drift. Every logo embroidery order requires a one-time digitizing job before the first piece is sewn. After that, the stitch file is yours forever — every reorder reuses it at no additional cost. Name and text embroidery skip digitizing because they use pre-built stitch files for each character in our stock fonts.

Best garments for logo digitizing embroidery

Digitizing isn't a placement, it's a service — but the digitized file affects how well your logo sews on different garments. For polo and chest placements (small designs, ~3.5 inches), the digitizer optimizes for clean small-format stitching. For full-front and full-back placements (large designs, 10-12 inches), the digitizer optimizes for stitch coverage at scale. For caps and curved surfaces, the digitizer adds extra underlay to compensate for the curved sewing surface. If you plan to use the same logo across multiple placement sizes (chest, hat, back), tell us at digitizing time — we'll produce separate stitch files optimized for each scale, all included in the single $125 digitizing fee.

How to prepare artwork for logo digitizing embroidery

Send us the best version of your logo you have. Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are ideal — we can scale them cleanly and pull out individual color elements. High-resolution PNG (300 DPI at the final embroidery size) is workable. JPG and tiny social-media logos can be digitized but require more manual reconstruction. Tell us: (1) the placement and final size, (2) the thread colors you want (we'll suggest matches from our Madeira Polyneon palette), (3) the garment fabric type, and (4) whether you have any brand-standard sewing direction or proportions to preserve. We'll send back a digital stitch preview (sew-out mock) within 24-48 hours for approval before we run any production.

Logo Digitizing pricing details

Logo digitizing is a flat $125 one-time fee per logo, regardless of size or complexity. There are no additional charges for: multiple sizes of the same logo (chest, hat, back), revisions during the first 30 days, color changes, or file format conversion. We charge separately for substantially different versions of a logo (e.g., a color version and a monochrome version are two digitizing jobs). The $125 fee is waived on orders over $150 in embroidery — many small businesses qualify for free digitizing on their first uniform order. You keep the stitch file forever; every reorder reuses it at no charge.

Logo Digitizing FAQ

Why does digitizing cost extra? Can I just upload a JPG?
A JPG is a picture of pixels; a stitch file is a precision instruction set. Digitizing requires a human technician to make stitch-type, density, underlay, and direction decisions. Auto-conversion produces poor results that break thread, pucker fabric, and misregister colors. The $125 fee buys you a file that runs cleanly forever.
How long does digitizing take?
24-48 hours for most logos. Complex multi-color designs with photographic detail can take up to 5 business days. We email you a stitch preview for approval before running production.
Do I own the stitch file?
Yes. You can request the file in any standard format (DST, EMB, PES, etc.) and use it at any embroidery shop forever. We keep a copy on file so future reorders with us reuse it automatically.
Will my digitized file work on my home embroidery machine?
Yes, if you tell us your machine brand at digitizing time. We export PES (Brother/Babylock), JEF (Janome), EXP (Bernina), and other home-format files on request at no extra charge.
When is digitizing free?
Digitizing is free on any embroidery order over $150 — most uniform programs and small team orders qualify automatically. We waive the $125 fee at checkout.
