Embroidery for Military Units
Unit patches, deployment patches, morale patches with hook-and-loop backing, subdued name tapes for OCP and Multicam, and tactical bag branding.
Embroidery in Uniformed Service Tradition
Military patch tradition is older than most of the embroidery industry. Unit insignia, deployment patches, theater-specific morale patches, and subdued name tapes have a regulation backing them, a tradition behind them, and a member who is going to wear them every day. We treat that with the seriousness it deserves. Color match, stitch density, edge merrowing, and backing type are reviewed against unit-approved samples or AR-style references before production.
Morale patches are a different category - permissive in design, expressive in tone, and often produced in limited runs of 50 to 200 for a specific unit, deployment, or event. We turn those around quickly. Hook-and-loop backing is standard for morale patches so they can be moved between kit, jackets, and bags at the wearer's discretion.
For tactical gear - plate carriers, war belts, range bags, kit bags - embroidery is a permanent identifier. Owner names, unit identifiers, and morale graphics survive years of training and deployment use when stitched in.

- Reunion, retirement, and change-of-command commemorative gear
- ROTC, JROTC, and academy embroidered patches and uniform items
Subdued Colors & Pattern-Specific Matching
OCP subdued is the current standard for most regular Army and Air Force wear. We carry the standard spice brown on tan thread combinations and will sew out a sample on the actual fabric you intend to mount the patch to. For Multicam variants, we adjust thread selection to match the specific pattern reference.
For full-color unit patches worn on dress uniforms or kept as commemorative items, we run from the approved unit reference and match thread to historical color tradition.
ITAR & Production Considerations
We do not produce ITAR-controlled designs or anything requiring export-control clearance. We do not produce classified unit identifiers or special-mission unit insignia without verified authorization from the unit. For approved designs outside those restrictions, we run on standard turnaround with no minimums.
For PVC versus embroidered choice - PVC patches reproduce fine detail and complex color gradients better at scale. Embroidered patches feel traditional and hold up better to extended wear. We offer both and will tell you which is the right call for your design.
“I needed 75 deployment patches for a unit reunion. EmbroideryLI took the artwork we drew up on the back of a napkin, cleaned it up into a proper digitized file, and turned the patches in two weeks. The Vietnam-era guys in our unit said the quality was the best they had seen since the original patches.”
Pricing & Bulk
Embroidered patches start at $12 and scale with size and stitch count. Morale patches and small unit patches typically run $12 to $18. Bulk discounts trigger at 25, 50, and 100 pieces - which lines up well with most unit and event orders. See pricing.
Military Embroidery FAQ
Can you produce velcro-backed morale patches?
Yes. Hook-and-loop backed morale patches are one of our most common military orders. Produced in any size, shape, or color combination, with the loop side sewn to the gear at the unit's discretion.
Do you match OCP and Multicam colors for subdued name tapes?
Yes. We carry the standard OCP subdued thread colors (spice brown on tan) and Multicam-appropriate combinations. We will sew out a sample on the actual fabric you intend to wear before running the full batch.
What about ITAR-controlled designs?
We do not produce ITAR-controlled designs, classified unit identifiers, or any patch requiring export-control clearance. For approved designs that fall outside ITAR control, we produce them on standard turnaround.
Can you do deployment patches and challenge-coin-style designs?
Yes. Deployment patches commemorating a specific theater, op, or unit milestone are common. Limited-run morale patches and PVC patches are also available - PVC for higher detail at scale, embroidered for traditional feel.
Do you work with veteran groups, ROTC, JROTC, and military academies?
Yes. We embroider for veteran organizations, ROTC and JROTC programs, military academies, and military-affiliated nonprofits. We extend our 501(c)(3) pricing where applicable.
