Embroidery for EMS & Paramedics

Star of Life patches, agency identification, uniform polos, job shirts, and station jackets for paid and volunteer EMS agencies across Long Island.

EMS Identity Is the Patch

EMS agency identity travels on the Star of Life. The six-bar blue star with serpent and staff is the most recognized emergency medical symbol in the world, and your agency's version of it - the colors, the scroll banners, the unit identifier in the center - is what your members wear with pride. We treat that patch as the most important part of an EMS order. Color accuracy, stitch density, and edge merrowing are reviewed against a sample patch before production starts.

EMS shifts are 12 to 24 hours. The uniform absorbs everything that an emergency call brings - blood, vomit, IV solutions, oxygen lines, restraint marks. Embroidered identification survives industrial wash cycles and bleach. Printed identification does not. For an agency buying job shirts and polos that members rotate through every shift, embroidery is the only durable option.

Long Island runs a significant volunteer EMS presence alongside paid agencies. We embroider for both, with no minimums, and we are familiar with corps-specific patch designs from Suffolk and Nassau ambulance corps and rescue companies.

What We Embroider for EMS

  • Star of Life shoulder patches and agency patches
  • Uniform polos with embroidered name and certification level (EMT, AEMT, EMT-P)
  • Long-sleeve job shirts for night shifts and cold weather
  • Station jackets and quarter-zips for between-call wear
  • Rank patches for crew chiefs, lieutenants, and captains
  • Gear bag identification (jump bags, airway bags, peds bags)
  • Watch caps and station ball caps
  • Awards banquet polos and recognition patches

Placements & Layouts

For EMS polos and job shirts, the standard layout is agency patch on the left sleeve, embroidered Star of Life or agency mark on the left chest, and name plus certification on the right chest. Crew chief or supervisor rank is typically embroidered above or below the name.

For station jackets, larger left-chest agency mark is standard, often with a sleeve patch repeating the agency identifier. For gear bags, end-panel embroidery keeps the agency mark readable on the rig and at the scene.

PPE Crossover & Practical Considerations

EMS uniforms operate at the edge of PPE and clinical garments. We avoid metallic and specialty threads on garments that need to be washed at high heat, and we use tear-away backings on heavier station fabrics so the embroidery does not pucker over time. We do not embroider on rated PPE - that should remain in factory configuration.

For agencies running cross-trained members (EMT, EMT-P, RN), we can produce removable patch panels via hook-and-loop so a single shirt can carry multiple certifications across shifts.

“We needed Star of Life patches and embroidered job shirts for a class of new EMT members. EmbroideryLI matched our corps colors exactly - the blue is one we have had trouble matching with other shops - and they shipped within ten days. We have been ordering from them ever since for member additions and replacements.”

EMS Embroidery FAQ

Can you produce Star of Life patches in our agency colors?

Yes. The Star of Life with serpent and staff is a standard EMS identifier and we produce it in any agency color combination. We can also incorporate it into a larger agency patch with scroll banners and unit identifiers.

Do you embroider on long-sleeve job shirts and station jackets?

Yes. Long-sleeve EMS job shirts and station jackets are some of our most common orders. We embroider the agency patch on the left chest or sleeve depending on agency tradition.

Can you handle a mixed roster of EMT, paramedic, and supervisor ranks?

Yes. Send the roster as a spreadsheet with each member's name and certification level. We embroider each polo or shirt with the correct rank and ship sorted by member or by station.

Do you embroider on EMS-issued PPE or bunker gear?

We embroider station wear, polos, jackets, and bag identification. We do not embroider on EMS PPE that carries protective ratings - that should be handled by the gear manufacturer.

What about volunteer ambulance corps?

Long Island runs a large number of volunteer ambulance corps. We embroider for all of them, with no minimum order, and we are familiar with corps-specific patch designs and traditions across Nassau and Suffolk.
