What is left chest embroidery?

Left chest embroidery is the single most common placement in the corporate apparel world. The design sits roughly four inches down from the shoulder seam and centered on the wearer's left chest panel — directly over the heart. Sizing typically lands between 3 and 3.5 inches wide because that is the area where a logo reads cleanly without distorting around the chest curve. This placement is the default for polos, button-downs, fleece, soft-shell jackets, work shirts, scrubs, and quarter-zips. Restaurants put their wordmark there. Real estate brokerages put broker initials there. Country clubs, marinas, contractors, and healthcare practices all default to left chest because the placement reads professional from across a room and never competes with the wearer's name tag or ID badge. We embroider left chest logos every single day at our Huntington shop, which is exactly why our base price stays at $10 — high volume keeps the per-piece cost honest.

Best garments for left chest embroidery

Left chest works on virtually any structured or knit garment with enough chest panel real estate to support a hoop. We sew it daily on Port Authority and CornerStone polos, Nike Dri-FIT polos, Under Armour performance polos, Carhartt and Dickies work shirts, Eddie Bauer and Cutter & Buck soft-shell jackets, North Face fleece, Vantage and Devon & Jones button-downs, Cherokee and Wonder Wink scrubs, and Champion and Russell quarter-zips. Lighter knits like 4-oz tri-blend tees need a cut-away stabilizer to keep the stitches from sinking; heavier fabrics like canvas, denim, and waxed cotton need a longer-shank needle and a tougher backing. If you are supplying your own garments, check that the chest panel is flat and unbroken by zippers, plackets, or front pockets in the embroidery zone.

How to prepare artwork for left chest embroidery

For a clean left chest sew-out, the original artwork should be vector (AI, EPS, or PDF) or a high-resolution raster (300 DPI PNG, minimum 1000px wide). The art will be scaled down to about 3.5 inches, so any text smaller than 1/4" tall in the final size will not stitch legibly. Keep typography simple and bold — script fonts and thin serifs tend to fall apart at this size. Limit the palette to nine thread colors or fewer; we match Madeira Polyneon thread, and we will email you the mock with chosen thread numbers before we run the job. Gradients, drop shadows, photographic detail, and outer glows do not translate to embroidery — they have to be redrawn as flat shapes during digitizing. If your only file is a JPG screenshot or a tiny social-media logo, our digitizing team can rebuild it, but expect to spend the $125 digitizing fee.

Left Chest Embroidery pricing details

Base price is $10 per garment for a standard left chest run of one logo up to 10,000 stitches. Stitch counts above that threshold add roughly $0.50 per 1,000 stitches. Digitizing is a one-time $125 fee per logo — you keep the stitch file and reuse it on every future order at no extra charge. Volume pricing kicks in at 24 pieces and again at 72 and 144. Text-only left chest jobs (names, monograms) skip the digitizing fee entirely and run at the $8 name embroidery rate. We do not charge extra for thread color changes, hooping setup, or trimming — those are baked into the per-piece rate.

Left Chest Embroidery FAQ

How wide should a left chest logo be?
Most left chest logos finish between 3 and 3.5 inches wide. Wider than that and the design starts wrapping around the chest curve; narrower than 2.5 inches and any text inside the logo becomes hard to read. We will recommend a final size when you upload your art.
Do I need to supply my own polos?
No. We carry Port Authority, Nike, Sport-Tek, and Under Armour blanks at wholesale, so we can quote you a complete polo + embroidery package. You can also bring in your own garments — most customers do for branded teamwear.
Can you add a second left chest logo above the first one?
Yes. Stacked left chest layouts (logo + name, or two logos) work as long as the combined height stays under about 4 inches. The lower element should be the primary logo, the upper element should be smaller.
How long does a left chest order take?
Standard turnaround is 3-5 business days from artwork approval. Stock-color polos with digitized art on file can ship same-day if ordered by noon. Rush service is available for an additional fee.
Will the embroidery hold up to industrial laundry?
Yes. We use Madeira Polyneon thread on a tear-away or cut-away stabilizer specifically because the combination survives commercial laundering. Restaurants and healthcare clients put our embroidery through hot wash and dryer cycles every single day.
