Custom Hoodie & Sweatshirt Embroidery
Heavy fleece, premium stitch foundation. Champion, Independent, Carhartt, Gildan, Bella+Canvas. Chest, full front, full back, sleeve, hood. Real machine embroidery in Huntington, NY.
Why Embroidery on Hoodies Works So Well
Heavyweight fleece is one of the best substrates for embroidery on the market. The dense pile gives thread plenty to seat into, the fabric weight supports high stitch counts without distortion, and the soft hand of the finished embroidery sits naturally in the fleece surface without feeling stiff or plasticky the way a print can on a hoodie.
From a brand perception standpoint, embroidered hoodies skew premium. Walk into any boutique streetwear store and the high-tier hoodies are embroidered, not printed. That same effect applies to team merch, school spirit lines, work-crew apparel, and brand drops - embroidery moves the piece up a price tier in the customer's perception.
Cut-Away Backing on Fleece
We use cut-away backing on every hoodie we stitch. Fleece is a knit with significant two-way stretch and a soft pile that wants to move under needle pressure. Tear-away (which we use on woven shirts) cannot stabilize fleece against that stretch over time.
Cut-away stays inside the garment permanently, fused behind the stitching to provide structural support against every wash, stretch, and pull cycle the hoodie will see. The finished result: an embroidered design that holds its registration and tension exactly the way it did on day one.
Hoodie Placement Options
Left Chest (3.5")
$10The premium-brand placement. Subtle, clean, perceived as high-end. Most ordered hoodie placement.
Full Front (11")
$35Bold front statement, positioned above the pouch pocket on pullover hoodies. Higher stitch count = higher price tier.
Full Back (12")
$45Marquee placement. Team logos, brand mark, large-scale design. Up to 50,000 stitches included.
Sleeve (each)
$10Secondary marks, sponsor logos, year tags. 3-inch max width. Both sleeves available.
Hood
$12Back of hood or side panel near drawstring grommets. 3-inch max. Unique placement that streetwear and merch drops use for hidden detailing.
Note: heavier fleece weights = higher stitch counts for the same coverage, which is why hoodie full-front and full-back placements skew toward the top of the stitch-count tier. We will quote any over-tier stitch counts in advance at proofing.

Hoodie Embroidery FAQ
Does embroidery work well on hoodies?+
Extremely well. Heavy fleece is one of the best substrates for embroidery - the dense pile gives thread plenty to bite into and supports high stitch counts without distortion. Embroidered hoodies have a premium feel that printed hoodies cannot match.
Why does heavyweight fleece need cut-away backing?+
Fleece is a knit fabric with significant stretch in both directions plus a soft pile that wants to move under needle pressure. Cut-away backing stays inside the garment for life, providing constant structural support against stretch and wash cycles. Tear-away on fleece looks fine new and looks puckered after three washes.
How big can a full front design on a hoodie be?+
Standard full-front max is 11 inches wide, positioned above the pouch pocket. Pullover hoodies leave less vertical room than zip-up hoodies because of the pocket. We will scale the design to fit cleanly during proofing.
Can you embroider on the hood?+
Yes. Hood placement is roughly 3 inches max width, typically centered on the back panel of the hood or on the side near the drawstring grommets. Useful for secondary marks and small logos. Adds $12 per piece.
Will embroidery on a hoodie crack or peel like printed designs?+
No. There is nothing to crack or peel - the design is interlocked polyester thread, not a printed surface. Embroidery on a hoodie will outlast the hoodie itself. The fleece will pill before the embroidery shows wear.
Which hoodie brands are best for embroidery?+
Champion S700 Powerblend, Independent Trading SS4500, Carhartt K288 Midweight, Gildan 18500, and Bella+Canvas 3719 are all reliable. Heavier-weight fleeces (10oz+) hold complex designs better than lightweight blends. We can source any of these through OTIA at wholesale tier.
